PETER E. JAQUITH

 PETER E. JAQUITH has shipyard executive experience in ship design, production engineering, planning, and production. He is a recognized leader in improving North American shipbuilding processes including the application of advanced outfitting, modular engine room techniques, the Toyota Production System, and world-class Lean Design and Production Engineering practices to naval and commercial ship design and construction. 


Peter has benchmarked world-class shipbuilding, automotive, aerospace, and civil engineering best practice and led their application to U.S. naval and commercial shipbuilding. He received a B.S. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute of Naval Architecture with advanced studies at the University of Maine and Harvard Business School. Peter has authored numerous papers on ship design, production engineering, modular construction, and ship manufacturing practice including the Lean Design Guide for Pre-Contract Design, SNAME T&R Bulletin 7-11. Peter is an ASNE Member Emeritus, a SNAME Life Fellow, and is recipient of ASNE’s “Jimmie” Hamilton and SNAME’s William M. Kennedy and Elmer L. Hann awards for his contributions to shipbuilding.

Michael Bosworth

 Michael Bosworth is an independent consultant in ship design, technology strategy, development and transition, history, & engineering workforce development.


 Michael retired from government (naval) civil service in June 2022 as Director of the Navy’s Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD) , a ship/boat/unmanned-systems designer recruitment & workforce development school. Previous positions at Naval Sea Systems Command included Science & Technology Director of Program Executive Office for Unmanned & Small Combatants (PEO-USC); deputy (& acting) Group Director for Technology (SEA 05TB); Division Director for Ship & Force Architecture Concepts (SEA 05D1); Branch Head for Transitional Research & Development (SEA 05D1T); & entrepreneurial R&D program manager for a half dozen programs in maritime design, technology, & tech strategy. 


He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, 1972-1996, holds three degrees in naval architecture & marine engineering from the Naval Academy and MIT, & between two government careers, he worked for Syntek Technologies. 


He was awarded the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Gold Medal for 2020, the DCCEAS regional Engineer of the Year designation for 2022, and is currently with AOC Inc. of Vienna Virginia.

Robert (Bob) Keane

Robert Keane, principal of Ship Design USA, Inc., has over forty three years of ship design experience, thirty five years of which were in technical leadership positions at the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). 


During twenty one years as a member of the Federal Senior Executive Service (SES), he served in senior leadership positions as the U.S. Navy’s Chief Naval Architect, Chief of Ship Design, Director of Ship Survivability & Technical Authority for Total Ship System Engineering (TSSE). 


In his last position at NAVSEA before retiring in 2002, he was the Executive Director for Surface Ship Design and Systems Engineering.  In this position, he was responsible for the design of all Navy surface ships & craft from pre-acquisition concept design studies, through Analyses of Alternatives (AoA), preliminary & contract design, detail design & construction, & in-service support. His Navy-led design teams successfully completed over thirty five major naval ship contract designs.

Ivan Caplan

  Ivan Caplan is past President of the Maritime Technology Alliance, a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting naval and maritime entities in Maryland and the surrounding area. He is currently President of G.I.A. Associates, Inc., a technology and business development consulting company focused on supporting both large and small businesses involved developing and deploying technology for the US military.


Mr. Caplan had a long career with the US Navy R&D community spanning over 35 years. He was Navy Program Manager for Shipboard Environmental Treatment Systems Development, Head of the US Navy’s Titanium Technology Program Office, Manager of the Office of Naval Research Ship & Submarine Materials Applied Research Program, Director of the US Navy Corrosion Control Program and Manager of the Advanced Materials & Processing Research Program for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.


Mr. Caplan’s educational background includes a BS in Metallurgy from Drexel University and a MS in Mechanics & Materials Science from The Johns Hopkins University. He is also a Graduate of the Federal Executive Institute and MIT’s Sloan School of Business. Mr. Caplan holds several patents, received numerous distinguished awards, and has co-authored more than 40 technical papers.
